Over 20 million people across the UK depend on Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) benefits and pensions to manage living costs. Yet nearly £23 billion in eligible support goes unclaimed annually, often due to stigma, system complexity, or simple unawareness of entitlements.

As your trusted accountancy partner in Gravesend, MCC Partners understands that navigating benefits alongside business finances can be complex. This comprehensive guide covers everything you need to know about DWP payments in June 2025.

June 2025 Benefit Payment Dates

Your benefit payment date depends on the specific benefit type and your initial payment date. Universal Credit arrives monthly, whilst Attendance Allowance, Disability Living Allowance, Pension Credit, Personal Independence Payment (PIP), and State Pension are paid every four weeks from your first payment date.

Carer's Allowance, Tax Credits (via HMRC), and Child Benefit are paid either weekly or every four weeks. Maternity Allowance arrives every two or four weeks. If your usual payment date falls on a weekend or bank holiday, benefits are paid on the preceding working day.

State Pension Payment Schedule

State pensions are paid every four weeks, with payment days determined by your National Insurance number's final two digits:

  • 00-19: Monday payments
  • 20-39: Tuesday payments
  • 40-59: Wednesday payments
  • 60-79: Thursday payments
  • 80-99: Friday payments

Your first payment arrives within five weeks of your chosen start date, potentially earlier if your normal payment day coincides with a bank holiday.

Missing Payment Troubleshooting

If your expected benefit payment hasn't arrived, first check your awards notice for the correct payment date. Bank holidays and weekends may delay payments until the next working day. Contact your bank to verify whether any pending payments are awaiting clearance.

For persistent issues, contact the relevant office: use your Universal Credit online account or call 0800 328 5644 for Universal Credit queries, or contact the PIP enquiry line on 0800 121 4433 for PIP payments. HMRC handles Tax Credits and related financial support queries.

2025 Benefit Increases

Benefits increased by 1.7% in April 2025, though some Universal Credit recipients won't see higher rates until June due to assessment period calculations. The increased rate applies from your first assessment period beginning on or after 7 April.

State pensions rose by 4.1% in April 2025 under triple lock rules, bringing the full new flat-rate pension to £230.25 weekly for those reaching pension age after April 2016.

Determining Benefit Eligibility

You may qualify for benefits regardless of employment status, age, disability, parental status, or veteran background. Online benefits calculators from Turn2Us, Policy in Practice, and entitledto can assess your potential entitlements.

Citizens Advice provides comprehensive guidance on available government support, whilst the Help for Households website details additional assistance programmes.

Payment Timing and Banking

Benefit payment times vary by bank and automated systems. DWP uses Bankers' Automated Clearing Services (BACS) for Universal Credit, typically processing payments between midnight and early morning. Don't be concerned if your payment timing differs from others or varies monthly.

Upcoming DWP Changes

The DWP has announced significant system modifications, including a £7 weekly Universal Credit increase for single people aged 25+ from 2026-27, enhanced employment support, and a 'right to try' work provision without benefit loss.

However, proposed changes also include tightened PIP eligibility criteria and Universal Credit health element modifications. The DWP consultation remains open for public input on these proposals.

Additional Cost of Living Support

With no planned cost of living payments for 2025, alternative support remains available. Charitable grants through Turn2Us can assist various circumstances, whilst local councils may offer debt advice, furniture support, and emergency assistance through welfare schemes.

Food banks are accessible through the Trussell Trust (0808 208 2138 for England/Wales, 0800 915 4604 for Northern Ireland) or IFAN's member map.
